Ingredients for Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs

Before you dive into making these cheeseburger pretzel bombs, make sure you have everything you need. Here’s a list of essential ingredients for the perfect bomb:

  • Ground Beef: 1 lb of lean ground beef for the filling. You can also use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Cheese: Shredded cheddar cheese or American cheese slices for that gooey center.
  • Pretzel Dough: You can either buy pre-made dough or make your own from scratch. Pre-made dough will save time if you’re in a hurry.
  • Seasonings: Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to season the beef. You can also add a pinch of smoked paprika for extra flavor.
  • Toppings: Optional additions like diced pickles, ketchup, mustard, or cooked bacon can be mixed into the beef or served on the side.

How to Make Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs

 Prepare the Beef Filling

Start by cooking the ground beef. In a skillet over medium heat, season your beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook until the beef is browned and crumbly. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside to cool.

Once the beef is slightly cooled, mix in your shredded cheddar cheese (or American cheese slices) until it’s nicely melted and evenly incorporated. If you’re adding any optional toppings like bacon or pickles, now’s the time to stir them in.

 Roll Out the Pretzel Dough

If you’re using store-bought pretzel dough, roll it out into small squares—about 3×3 inches. If you’re making your dough from scratch, follow the recipe instructions and let the dough rise before rolling it out into squares. Each square should be big enough to wrap around the filling.

Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs: The Ultimate Game-Day Snack

Weightloss journey starts soon so its a big back weekend!!

Ingredients

for 14 bombs
1 lb pizza dough(455 g), left out at room temperature for 15-20 minutes
7 slices american cheese, cut in half
14 frozen mini meatballs, thawed
¼ cup baking soda(45 g)
5 cups water(1.2 L)
1 egg, beaten
coarse sea salt
yellow mustard, for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 425ËšF (220ËšC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cut the pizza dough into 14 evenly sized pieces. Working one at a time, stretch out a piece of dough into a long strip, about 8 inches (20 centimeters) long.
Place a piece of cheese at the top, followed by a meatball, and roll up the cheese and meatball in the dough. Rotate halfway through rolling to ensure you are completely encasing the cheese and meet in the dough. Pull tightly and use any remaining slack to cover any possible gaps/holes. Press the dough into itself to seal and place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough, cheese, and meatballs.
In a medium saucepan over high heat, bring the 5 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the baking soda and stir to dissolve. Return the pot to a boil.
In batches (about 3-5 at a time), add the rolled dough balls to the pot and boil for 20-30 seconds, stirring gently. Remove and dab on paper towels before placing back on the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough balls.
Brush each boiled ball with beaten egg, then sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

Notes

Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the outsides have browned. Serve warm with mustard, if desired.
Enjoy!

 Assemble the Bombs

Scoop about a tablespoon of the beef and cheese mixture onto the center of each dough square. Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pinching the seams together to seal the bomb. Repeat this with the remaining dough and filling.

 Boil the Bombs

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add about 1/4 cup of baking soda (this is what gives the pretzel dough that distinct texture). Once the water is boiling, carefully lower the pretzel bombs into the water using a slotted spoon. Boil for about 30 seconds on each side before removing them and placing them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

 Bake to Perfection

Brush each pretzel bomb with an egg wash (a beaten egg mixed with a tablespoon of water) to give them that beautiful golden color. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until the pretzels are golden brown and crispy.

 Serve and Enjoy

Once your cheeseburger pretzel bombs are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before serving. You can serve them with classic dipping sauces like ketchup, mustard, or ranch dressing for added flavor. Enjoy!

Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs: Frequently Asked Questions

After learning how to make cheeseburger pretzel bombs, you might have some additional questions about preparing, storing, or customizing them. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about this delicious snack.

Can I Make Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs Ahead of Time?

Absolutely! You can prepare cheeseburger pretzel bombs in advance and bake them later. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Assemble the Bombs: Follow all the steps up to wrapping the pretzel dough around the filling. Don’t bake them yet.
  2. Refrigerate or Freeze: If you’re making them a day ahead, cover them with plastic wrap or foil and store them in the fridge. For longer storage, freeze them. If freezing, place them on a baking sheet and freeze them for about 1 hour before transferring them to a freezer-safe container.
  3. Bake When Ready: When you’re ready to bake, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). For refrigerated bombs, bake them for about 15-20 minutes. If they were frozen, bake them for 25-30 minutes.

This method ensures you can enjoy fresh and hot cheeseburger pretzel bombs without much effort on the day of your event.

Can I Substitute the Ground Beef?

Yes, you can easily swap the ground beef for other ingredients to suit your taste or dietary preferences:

  • Ground Turkey or Chicken: For a leaner alternative, use ground turkey or chicken. These will still hold up well with the cheese and pretzel dough.
  • Vegetarian Option: If you prefer a meatless version, use vegetarian crumbles, lentils, or a mixture of beans and veggies for the filling.
  • Pork: Ground pork or sausage can add a savory twist to your pretzel bombs, making them even more flavorful.

Can I Make Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs Without Cheese?

While cheese is a key ingredient in cheeseburger pretzel bombs, you can make a version without it if you prefer. Here are some alternatives:

  • Cheese Substitutes: Use dairy-free cheese if you’re vegan or lactose intolerant. Nutritional yeast is another great option to give it a cheesy flavor without using dairy.
  • No Cheese at All: If you want a lighter version, you can skip the cheese and increase the amount of cooked veggies or seasonings in the filling.

For a cheeseless version, consider serving the bombs with a side of dipping sauces like ketchup or mustard to give them extra flavor.

What Can I Dip Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs In?

Cheeseburger pretzel bombs are delicious on their own, but adding a tasty dip can make them even better. Here are some fantastic dip ideas to go with your pretzel bombs:

  1. Ketchup and Mustard: Classic burger condiments, perfect for dipping.
  2. Ranch Dressing: Creamy and tangy, ranch is always a favorite with pretzel dough.
  3. Cheese Sauce: For an extra cheesy experience, serve your pretzel bombs with warm cheese sauce.
  4. BBQ Sauce: Sweet and smoky BBQ sauce can give your bombs a deeper, richer flavor.
  5. Spicy Mayo: A combination of mayonnaise, sriracha, and a squeeze of lime for a spicy, creamy dip.
